Finding natural beauty products is HARD. Trying to avoid every company that test on animals or contain animal products or nasty chemicals is a real struggle. I recently shared a graphic which highlighted just some of the cosmetics companies that test on animals or are not considered ‘ethical’ towards animals and I have been making a massive effort to overhaul the products I currently use to ones that I know are vegan/animal friendly. It is a gradual process as I don’t have unlimited funds to try out everything all at once but I thought it might be helpful to share my top 5 all natural beauty products that I have been loving so far. It is by no means a comprehensive list, as I will be buying and trying new things every month.
First up, I am loving this cleanser by Sukin.
Sukin are an Australian company that are committed to providing natural, sustainable and affordable skincare. I got this little beauty from Ocado when I did my weekly shop and in just the few days I have been using it I feel like I can already feel a difference in my skin. It feels softer, the gel smells amazing and I genuinely look forward to using it. It just feels high end and even the bottle looks nice on my shelf.
You can use it guilt free because not only is it all ethical and vegan friendly, but they claim that ‘all formulations are 100% Carbon Neutral, biodegradable and grey water safe’.
Next is this facial oil and body scrub by Bloomtown Botanicals.
In the interest of full disclosure I actually got sent a few bits from Bloomtown to review and write about in relation to minimalism over on their site. There was absolutely no stipulation that I talk about it over on my own blog but honestly, I am really loving their products. I chose the facial oil in the scent called The Meadow because it contained lavender and I thought it would be nice to use before bed. I have also used it on the ends of my hair and washed it out in the morning and as drops in the bath. Again, their products are all toxin free, ethical and vegan friendly. I am honestly obsessed with this oil though, I will definitely be repurchasing it when my bottle runs out. I use it religiously every single day and the smell is just amazing.
The scrub smells incredible too. So sweet and fruity. It is really moisturising which you can actually see after you have scooped it out of the tub it goes all milky. If you want to check out my post on their products and how you can minimise your bathroom by using multipurpose products such as the scrub and oil, you can check it out here.
Lush has dive-bombed back into my life as I bought a face-mask from there the other day and decided I wanted to buy everything else in the shop too. I went for the Oatifix fresh facemark which as the name suggests, contains oats, bananas and a whole host of lovely things which left my skin feeling exfoliated and supple.
No longer just my go to place if I want a snazzy bath-bomb, I also bought a vegan friendly conditioner for my hair too, as I discovered my usual brand Aussie tested on animals which left me with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth as I usually love their products. Apparently they also contain some very questionable toxins too so I am giving them a wide berth and trying to find alternatives. I went for the Veganese conditioner which is supposed to be lightweight but I actually found it quite heavy on the mid lengths of my hair… maybe I just didn’t do a thorough rinse job though. Nevertheless, it has quite a neutral scent but left my hair soft and silky.
EDIT Oct 17: After using it for a few weeks, I found that actually this conditioner left my scalp really dry so I actually had to stop using it. The lengths were still really soft but I had a horrible flaky scalp so I won’t be repurchasing this product. Sorry Lush! I usually love your stuff but this one just didn’t agree with me.
So there we have it for this month. I will be trying more products as and when my old ones run out and I will keep you updated. Do you have any vegan/natural beauty products you would recommend? Let me know.
