Next weekend I will be attending my first blogging conference, Blog On MSI in Manchester. I cannot wait. Firstly, to attend all of the sessions that tickle my fancy and secondly because it is a weekend away. I can chat, drink and be merry and not have to ask someone if they need the toilet every 7 seconds (potty training toddlers are so much fun). Those of us going to Blog On have the option to answer a series of questions in a blog post before we go, to help us get to know each other a little better and make things a little less awkward on the day.
So firstly, here’s me:
I appreciate that this is not my most attractive photo, however it is the most accurate representation of what my face will probably look like on the day. I will likely be sweaty and red faced, because I am absolutely dreading driving around Manchester City centre and I find it very stressful. I am also likely to be a little tired and wearing last nights mascara because I plan on going to the launch party the night before the conference. I can confirm however, that I will not be wearing my wellies or dragging along a muddy toddler.
Describe yourself in three words:
Likely wearing stripes.
How long have you been blogging and why did you start?
Just over a year. I started because I was on maternity leave and my husband no longer found me waffling on about parenting or what I had for breakfast. So I wrote it down instead and got a better response from the people of the internet.
What was the inspiration behind your blog name?
I really like porridge. I’m a parent. It wasn’t very inventive.
What is the best thing to come from your blog so far?
The blogging community as a whole. I’ve made friends, been exposed to a lot of bloggers and vloggers whose content I really enjoy and I rediscovered my love of writing. I also find that it forces me to do more with my time and go on more days out, so I have more to write about and more pictures for the ‘gram (Instagram of course).
Your most remembered thing from your childhood:
Jelly shoes. God I loved jelly shoes.
Something interesting you might not know about me is:
My family and I are vegans. If you read my blog you probably do know that already but if not, there you are. I’ll throw in a bonus fact for people who already knew that one… I lived in Canada and Germany as a child and would love to move to Canada some day.
Which social media platform best describes your personality and why?
Probably Instagram. I’m all about the captions. You will find a lot of pictures of what we get up to, vegan food and general toddler mayhem over there. My most recent post is my attempt to rock a choker and try to be all trendy. Turns out I have learnt that I have a neck like Phil Mitchell and they are very uncomfortable.
What is your happy song?
It changes all the time. At the moment I am really loving the old Will Smith stuff. I have recently procured tickets for myself and my husband to go and see Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff who are performing for ONE NIGHT ONLY in the UK this August. Beyond excited.
What is your favourite alcoholic drink?
Asti. I love really sweet wine and drinking bubbly wine feels kinda fancy.
What is your favourite cake?
It’s hard to find good vegan cake to be honest. I would love to go to Deliciously Ella’s cafe in London and try some of her stuff. My non vegan favourite is that lemon and white chocolate tart they do at Costa. I love those.
What is your favourite takeaway dish?
I order the plain noodles, crispy seaweed, mushroom curry and then drizzle over a tonne of hoisin sauce when I get a Chinese takeaway. It’s so good.
Where is your dream holiday destination and why?
I love Italy. We went to Palermo for our honeymoon and I would love to just take a few months to explore Italy in it’s entirety. I love their easy going lifestyle, food and penchant for Prosecco!
If you had a magic power, what would it be and why?
I would love to be able to hear people’s thoughts. Actually, thinking about it I don’t know if I would because I would probably hear things I didn’t like and then just be sad all the time. I would love to be able to teleport, that would be handy, I hate driving.
What one weapon would help you survive a zombie apocalypse?
I’d be terrible in a zombie apocalypse. I can’t run and I get tired really quickly. I’m also a nightmare when I haven’t eaten. I’d be zombie fodder so quickly. I think my ideal weapon would be my husband because I know he would at least attempt to save me, bless him.
If you could send something into space, what would it be?
What would you have on your gravestone?
Wife, mother, friend.
You make headlines, around the world in 2 years time. What would it be for?
Winning some kind of blogging accolade would be fab. Otherwise, I’d be happy with a lottery win making me hit the headlines.
If an EMP wiped out all mechanical forms of transport, how would you get to BlogOn?
Some of these questions are odd right… erm. To be honest, if something like that had happened I would probably stay home with my family, because I would presume something mental was happening out in the world and I wouldn’t be heading off on a jolly to Manchester. Either that or I would see what my buddy Beth was doing (who is also going to Blog On) and just tag along with her.
Head on over to this site to check out the answers of some other attendees. See you there!
