Stuff I’m Loving: Summer 2017

One of those random posts where I witter on about stuff I’m enjoying or what I’ve been up to. Just indulge me.

So it’s Wednesday today and I am just a few days away from being back to normality. The summer holidays will soon be over and we will be back in a routine of nursery, baby ballet, forest school and me attempting to start going to the gym. We had a pretty good bank holiday weekend, we went to see Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff at Livewire Festival in Blackpool and it was incredible. We went VIP (fancy I know but we treated ourselves for our wedding anniversary) and I loved every second of it. I’m not normally one for festivals or concerts because the crowds make me anxious and I’m short so I can never see anything anyway. But the VIP area was not crowded at all and raised up on a platform so we could see everything. Though, we were further away from the stage than I would have liked what with the cost of the tickets but it was amazing all the same.

We even got to go to an after party DJ’d by Gemma Cairns from Radio 1 and with Phats and Smalls performing! I’m not sure which one is which… but whichever one it is in the picture below, he had some crazy dancing feet!

Aside from our wild weekend kid free in Blackpool, we have wholeheartedly jumped on board with this whole Shropshire Rocks craze. Basically, you find a rock, paint it and leave it somewhere in Shropshire for other kids to find. When you find one, you take a picture of it and upload it to the Shropshire Rocks Facebook page and then re-hide it for someone else to find.

We went to Apley Woods and Isabelle found absolutely tonnes. We then went home and painted a few of our own and so this afternoons plan is to head out and hide them. She gets a bit carried away with the hiding part though and puts them in really obscure places or tries to bury them so I have to keep an eye on her.

We have also been planning what we want to do with our garden recently. We moved in to a new build house and so the garden was pretty much just mud. We have been focussing on getting the house done so we just kind of ignored it and now we are thinking that we definitely want it finished for next summer so we can use it. I wanted fake grass, but it works out pretty pricey if you do it properly with drainage and stuff so we have decided on decking.

I don’t think we will be getting it done until early next year so we have a few months to really plan it out but I feel quite excited about it. One concern though is that if ever we decided to sell the house, would it put people off if there was only decking and no grass? It is definitely a family home… would you dismiss a house that didn’t have a grass garden? Its something to think about I suppose…

I have set up a Pinterest Board (go ahead and follow me over there if you don’t already) and Im loving all of the pictures below. I think lighting is really important. I almost want it to be an extension of the house, somewhere where I can go and curl up and read a book in the summer evenings once Isabelle is in bed.

Finally, Ozark. Please tell me you have been watching Ozark? We started watching it on Netflix just before the weekend and we became pretty obsessed, pretty quickly. For a start, I love Jason Bateman and so anything starring him is likely to be a winner. It is just such addictive viewing. Netflix have nailed it again with another Netflix Original which gives us something completely different from what we are used to.

There are 11 episodes in Series 1 and I’m hoping there will be a Series 2, but I haven’t looked into it yet.

It kind of reminds me a bit of Breaking Bad, but its more moody and beautiful. Joe has been unfaithful and actually watched a few episodes without me now, which means he has finished it and I haven’t. He says the final episode will destroy me, I plan on watching it tonight so I will keep you updated. Definitely go and check it out though, it has an 8.5 on IMDB which for us means its definitely something we enjoy. We always check the score of something on IMDB before we commit to watching it. Often, we try and see if our favourite critic Jeremy Jahns has reviewed it too as his reviews are pretty much always accurate. Apart from BirdMan. I hated that movie.

What’s been going on in your life lately? I would love to know.
